1960s Sarah Coventry rainbow bracelet for the laid back look

Sarah Coventry bracelet

This lovely little Sarah Coventry bracelet popped up at Portobello Market the other day and I realised what a wonderful addition it would make to the collection.  It is another piece of costume jewellery from Sarah Coventry in the 1960s, where small glass stones in all the lovely colours of the rainbow are linked together.  I thought it went so well with a laid back jeans and tank top-outfit, as it adds a sweet little detail to the look.

I have been getting a lot of inspiration for hair styles from a young lady who does youtube-hair tutorials by the way.  In the photo above you can see my take on the Cuty Ponytail, and you can find the tutorial for it here.

Mid-Victorian French jet necklace worn today

Mid-Victorian French jet necklace worn with black Tiger of Sweden jeans and a Massimo Dutti top.  And yes, it started pouring down by Selfridges today after lunch, so the Cath Kidson umbrella also made an appearance!

They reflect beautifully in the sunlight – and even in the rain!

This black bead necklace is made of black jet and comes from the mid-Victorian times, which makes it approximately 150 years old!  It is a piece of Mourning Jewellery; black jewellery widely worn after the death of Prince Albert in 1861.  At the time Queen Victoria dressed in black and wore only black jewellery for decades to show that she was grieving – a style also followed by the people.

French Jet is coloured glass, initially made to imitate real jet, but it possesses a darker glitter and shine than the real thing.

This is a wonderful example of a piece of antique jewellery that I think is worth investing in today, as it can be worn with any modern day outfit without dating it.  You will even be able to pass it along to your children – if you look after it well – and there will always be an interesting story to tell around the dinner table when you have it draped around your neck!

1950s midnight blue earrings

1950s Midnight blue earrings

After this long bank holiday weekend we are back again!

This is such a precious pair of costume jewellery earrings from the 1950s.  The intense midnight blue colour creates a wonderful contrast to the sparkling stones surrounding it.  They would for example be the perfect accompaniment to a dark blue dress – how very royal indeed!

I picked them out at a car boot sale the other week, again left all alone in a scruffy little box, and I am absolutely delighted to be able to show them to you!  If any of the other products take your fancy please do check out the Shop-page at the top.

1960s or 70s glorious marcasite cocktail ring

Let’s welcome the weekend with some glitz and glamour!

This silver marcasite cocktail ring from the 60s/70s is here posing together with a wonderful feather fascinator.  They both breathe old school Hollywood glamour that just sweeps any girl off her feet!  A fabulous ensamble  to wear to that upmarket hen party or the wedding that you will be going to soon.  Just team them up with a gorgeous dress in any colour, a pair of fabulous heels and you are ready to dance the night away!

Some nights a girl just has far more important things to do than tidying up after herself…

Silver ring with a green agate and marcasites

Isn’t this just the most splendid 1920s cocktail ring?  The oval green agate is surrounded by lots of glorious marcasites that create that wonderful effect of times gone by.  It goes so well with lots of different colours and outfits and would be a beautiful accompaniment to an LBD as it has that understated beauty we so often look for.

Simple elegance in a pair of 1930s cameo earrings

I am absolutely delighted to be showing you this beautiful pair of cameo earrings from the 1930s, that I picked up yesterday at an antique fair.  I have been scouting around for just the right looking cameos for quite some time now and I couldn’t be more pleased to have come across these.  See how beautifully they are framed by the pearls and how well the colours go together to create such an elegant look?

Cameos go really far back in time – to Ancient Rome and further – and can be found for example in rings, brooches, earrings and pendants.  The material also varies greatly, from shell to precious gems, and literally everything in between.  The material would be carved into the shape of for example a lady’s head in profile, and then mounted into a metal frame.  I am almost certain that this pair is merely costume jewellery, so not made out of any expensive material, but all the better for us as it won’t be super expensive, like the ones set in gold frames.  They are clip ons as well, so perfect whether your ears are pierced or not.

How beautiful isn’t this pair worn with a lacy dress to a cocktail party or to that special dinner you had planned?  It gives an incredibly romantic look and I would definitely wear my hair up to expose these beauties.

Romantic hairdo with a Scottish vintage brooch

Scottish Vintage Brooch

This sparkling little brooch is most likely a Scottish vintage brooch – it is quite secretive and won’t let me know very much more than that about its background.  The green stone is made out of glass which has been cut to a lovely emerald shape and fastened into a beautiful metal base.

I think it is such a glorious little thing and I wanted to give you an idea of how you could wear it for example to a wedding:  just bump up your hair Audrey-style and twist strands from the sides across the middle part where you have fastened the bump, to create a very nice shape to the hairstyle.  Finally just secure the brooch with a hairpin and you are good to go!

Time to open presents…

This weekend I have been working on the gift wrapping for these little treasures, so once you order a little piece from here this will arrive for you!

Buying vintage and antique pieces is such a wonderful way of contributing to a more sustainable way of life, and of course we must continue on this theme by choosing these beautiful jewellery boxes which are all made from recycled material.

My philosophy is that shopping should be a delightful experience – from start to finish!
